"Winter camping? You must be kidding!" Instead of shuddering at the idea, just imagine all of the positives of camping in the snow: no mosquitoes, no camping crowds, and beautiful white landscapes! This is a basic camping skills class adapted to cold weather. Students will get practice in safety precautions, fire building, shelter construction, and snowshoeing.
Grades 5 - 12 Outdoor Skills WinterStudents will learn how to use a compass and test those skills with a compass game. In a more extensive orienteering program, we will learn how to read a topographic map and then work in pairs on an orienteering course, looking for markers set out somewhere in our 570 acres. In winter we use snow shoes for traveling through the woods
Grades 5 - 12 Outdoor Skills Fall Spring WinterWe will provide instruction for novice skiers in the basics of cross-country ski techniques. It will be taught on the instruction field and followed by a short outing on our ski trails.
